Brett Nicholls Associates has pledged to be a net zero business by 2045 [in line with The Scottish Government’s and Glasgow City’s objectives.]
To achieve this, we are committed to reducing our absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, and reduce our total emissions by 30% (including scope 3) within the next 5 years.
Here at Brett Nicholls Associates, we understand the role that small businesses have to play in the fight against climate change. We are dedicated to minimising our environmental impact – reflected in our recent B Corp certification as a business driving high-quality social and environmental standards – and have set out to imbed sustainability in everything we do whilst delivering the highest quality of service to our customers.
To achieve net zero, Brett Nicholls Associates has implemented a rigorous four step strategy to effectively measure carbon emissions, as well as create a clear, credible and practical roadmap to meet emission reduction targets annually.

1. Measure our carbon footprint
Net Zero Now Collaboration
From August, 2022, we are working with Net Zero Now to measure our carbon footprint annually as a small accountancy business, calculating our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. We are working towards achieving certification as a business ‘On the Road to Net Zero’.

Step Up to Net Zero Grant
Received a highly competitive grant from Glasgow Chamber of Commerce as part of their ‘Step Up to Net Zero’ initiative. A Net Zero Coordinator was hired to calculate and reduce our carbon emissions in three key areas; circularity, net zero and waste management.

2. Reduce our emissions
Going Paperless – Supporting a Circular Economy
In 2021, we digitised all of our physical records and switched all operations online to promote a paperless culture in the office.

Zero Waste to Landfill
As of August 2022, we are working with Change Waste Recycling to divert all waste from landfill, install high-quality recycling in the office and reduce our scope 3 emissions.

3. Support efforts towards CO2 removal

Planting Trees Whilst Browsing
We have switched Ecosia as our default browser on all work devices, supporting offsetting projects such as planting trees and investing in solar energy projects.
So far, Brett Nicholls Associates has planted (x) number of trees in total.

4. Communicate our net zero status
On the Road to Net Zero
Brett Nicholls achieved status as a business on track to achieve net zero in [date] 2022.
Full transparency in our sustainability efforts is key to holding ourselves accountable, encouraging other firms to pursue environmental goals and fostering a culture of continuous improvement regarding our organisations’ environmental action. (insert David signature)
