I was reminded when with a client in Edinburgh recently that there is still a partial exemption from water rates for certain Scottish registered charities. The relief is tapered and if your turnover is over £200,000 you will only get partial relief. If you have turnover greater than £300,000, or are caught by a few other clauses, this relief isn’t available at all. So – in a nutshell if you’re a small charity which is not a retail shop, café, or covered by a permanent alcohol licence, this could save you some money!
